Learn how to De-Clutter your Life! |
Organizing 101
Decluttering The first step to conquering any problem is to admit that there is a problem. I believe that just like obesity Americans have a clutter problem because it is so easy to obtain stuff (24 hour Walmart) and this stuff is (for the most part) inexpensive. Another problem is that we are all so busy, work, church, clubs, soccer, scouts, that we don't have much time to organize our lives and then to top it off we are bombarded with papers. Newspapers, junk mail, flyers, notes from school etc. etc.... What we need is a system: a way of learning how to organize the things we have and a way of knowing what to get rid of. To begin decluttering ask yourself " What is the function of this room?" Once you have determined that you can decide exactly what should be in that room and what needs to go. At that point you need 3 or 4 boxes and a trash can. Have a box to give away, to sell, to put away, and don't know. That way you can move quickly through the room without having to stop and think. If you can't decide quickly put the item in the I don't know box. When your done seal the I don't know box and put it out of the way. You know out of sight out of mind. Then wait 6 months and see if you miss or need anything in that box at the end of the 6 months (don't peak)donate the box.
You can learn to be an organized person. Step-by-Step you can begin to make the changes in your life that will become good habits. Organized people get more done and are more satisfied with life. There is nothing magical about being organized, it's a learned skill that you can learn and practice until it becomes routine. Good Luck with your decluttering, its truly the first step to living a more organized life. Don't be afraid to let go! You will be happier for it.
